Will my confidences be protected?

Yes. Your information is kept confidential, unless you give your therapist a written permission to disclose such information. You can withdraw this permission at any time. There are some specific exceptions to this rule, which are also detailed in terms and conditions of services and privacy policy.

Is clinical psychotherapy covered under OHIP?

No, however some extended health benefit plans may cover a portion of the fees. The client is responsible for the fees at the time the service is delivered. Some clients depending on the employer get covered under the Employee Assistance Program (EAP), Non-Insured health Benefits (NIHB). Please check with your plan holder or speak to your HR for further clarification.

How many therapy sessions do I need?

Each client’s needs are different from another. The therapist will assess and mutually come to an agreement with each client on when to review or terminate services in the best interests of every client.

Does couple therapy really work?

According to the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT), research indicates that couples and family counseling is helpful for relationships. Greater than 75% of couples were better off than those in the same situation that did not receive counselling. The couples that went to counselling reported a “significant” improvement in relationship satisfaction.

How do I know you are the right therapist for me?

Although it may take a few sessions to feel connection between psychotherapist and client, our practice strives to have our client needs met. It is very important to find the right "fit" with your therapist. Moreover, it is important to feel that your psychotherapist "gets" you; that you feel deeply understood and feels safe.

Does your practice provide therapy via phone? Or video?

Yes. Our practice uses software mediums such as OnCallhealth and RingMD.

Do Psychotherapists or Psychological associates prescribe medication?

No. Psychotherapists are not trained to prescribe any medication however; therapists can refer any of their clients to seek medical attention from their respective family physician as needed. Therefore, at TEP we care and put your safety first; and promote both your health and further recovery.

How long do I have to wait to be seen by a psychotherapist?

At our practice, we try our best to have our clients seen as soon as they contact us. We also prefer not to have long waitlists.
